In trichiasis, the eyelid is typically in a normal position, but the eyelashes grow toward the eyeball instead of away from it. Trichiasis can occur one or all of the eyelids. The eye is often uncomfortable, red, and filled with tears. One or more lashes may be involved. There are a variety of surgical procedures designed to correct a trichiasis of the eyelid. These procedures include manual epilation (pull the lashes out), cryoablation (freezing), radiofrequency ablation (radiosurgery) and surgical excision.
