Radiosurgery

Radiosurgery is a new technology that our doctor uses to perform both cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. This technology essentially replaces the scalpel.

The procedure involves passing high-frequency radio waves from a micro-fine wire to an antenna behind the patient. When the doctor touches the skin with the wire, he or she makes a very precise incision. Radiosurgery essentially replaces the scalpel. Radiosurgery promotes less bleeding, rapid healing and greater comfort.

Radiosurgery can correct:

  • Unwanted bags or excess skin around the upper or lower eyelids
  • Drooping eyelids (eyelid lifts)
  • Growths on the eyelids
  • Eyelid malformations, such as eyelids turning toward or away from the eyes

Cosmetic Eyelid surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation, if desired. In some cases, we may opt to visit a surgical center. Tissue adhesives may also be used in place of sutures for ‘stitchless’ results. With reduced pain and fast recovery, most patients return to work within a few days.

Schedule a consultation with the J. Justin Older Eyelid Institute to determine if Radiosurgery is right for you.
